The CAO (Central Applications Office) is the organisation responsible for processing applications for entry to courses in third level colleges in Ireland. The CAO application process will open on November 6th 2017, at 12.00pm for those who are planning entry to college, through the CAO system, in Autumn 2018.
The normal application closing date is 5.15pm on February 1st, 2018 with an application fee of €45.00, while early online applications can be made from November 6th up to 5.15pm on January 20th at a discounted application fee of €30.00.
To apply, log on to www.cao.ie, click on apply and enter your personal contact details. You can make your payment by Credit or Debit card or by using a Fee Payment Form available by contacting the CAO. There are two lists on the CAO form, one for Level 8 (Honours Degree Courses) and the other for Level 6 (Higher Certificate Courses) and Level 7 (Ordinary Degree Courses). When entering your course choices remember to list your courses in order of preference. You do not need to know your final choice of courses at this stage as there will be an opportunity to change your mind at a later stage. Further information on making an application is available from the CAO booklet or website where there is also an online Demo Application where applicants have the opportunity to practice filling in their CAO form before submitting it.
Finally, remember to keep track of all correspondence from the CAO once your application has been submitted and ensure you are familiar with all deadlines at the different stages of the application process. Important dates as well as Test and Interview dates can all be found on www.cao.ie
